About Sidereal Astrology

Sidereal Astrology is a platform dedicated to astrology based on the real positions of planets in the sky, using the sidereal zodiac system with Lahiri ayanamsa. Our goal is to provide precise astronomical calculations and rigorous educational content about Vedic and sidereal astrology.

Our Methodology

Astronomical precision: All our calculations use the Swiss Ephemeris (JPL DE431 standard), the most precise ephemeris system available, used by NASA and professional observatories worldwide.

Lahiri Ayanamsa: We employ the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the most widely accepted standard in Vedic astrology, which corrects for the precession of the equinoxes to show the true planetary positions relative to the fixed stars.

Scientific validation: Each natal chart calculation is cross-referenced with multiple astronomical sources to ensure that the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and lunar nodes are accurate to the arc-second.

Who's Behind It

Joan Vila — Researcher & Developer

Founder of Sidereal Astrology. He combines training in Vedic astrology with software development experience to create accessible and precise calculation tools. His interest began when he discovered his sidereal sign differed from his tropical sign, leading him to deeply research the precession of the equinoxes and ayanamsa systems.

Joan is responsible for both the editorial content and the astronomical calculation engine of the platform, ensuring that every article and every natal chart meets the standards of precision that define Sidereal Astrology.

Why We Do This

This project was born from a transformative personal experience. When I discovered sidereal astrology, it was like a piece that had always been misaligned suddenly clicked into place. For years I had identified with a zodiac sign that, quite simply, wasn't my real one. Understanding that the planetary positions traditional astrology attributed to me didn't correspond with what was actually in the sky made me rethink everything.

The impact was profound. It wasn't just about changing signs: it was realizing that there existed a complete astrological system —thousands of years old, deeply rooted in Vedic tradition— that reflected with astronomical precision where the planets were on the day I was born. That authenticity changed how I understood myself and the world.

I created Sidereal Astrology because I wanted other people to have that same experience. So anyone could discover their true natal chart —not the one magazines tell you, but the one that reflects the real constellations— without economic or technical barriers. If knowing the sidereal zodiac had this impact on my life, my responsibility is to share it and make it accessible to everyone.

This isn't a commercial site disguised as a blog. It's an educational project: I want more people to learn about sidereal astrology, understand why their real sign might differ from what they were always told, and have the tools to explore it themselves. Vedic astrology has offered guidance and self-knowledge for millennia. For me, discovering this information had a great impact: what I learned helped me understand much more about myself, my patterns, my strengths, and what I needed to work on. If this helped me understand myself better, my responsibility is to share it so others can have that same experience.

What Sets Us Apart

Unlike most astrology websites, which use the tropical zodiac (based on seasons, not stars), we work exclusively with the sidereal zodiac: the system that reflects where the planets actually are in the night sky. This means that when we say your Sun is in sidereal Leo, you can go outside and verify that the Sun was indeed in the constellation of Leo on the day you were born.

Our Commitment

1. Transparency: We openly explain our methodology, data sources, and limitations. We don't hide that we use AI to generate content, but every article is reviewed and corrected to ensure technical accuracy.

2. Precision over marketing: We prioritize astronomical accuracy over sales pitches. If a calculation has a margin of error, we state it.

3. Accessibility: Basic tools (natal chart, sidereal sign, ascendant) are free. No mandatory sign-ups or aggressive paywalls.

4. Continuous improvement: We regularly update our content and tools based on user feedback and advances in astronomical ephemerides.
